Fredags seminarium i litteratur - Africa Studies.
On the African continent as well as in the African diaspora, skin lightening practices grown out of colonial and post colonial power hierarchies, structures and processes, reflect discourses surrounding colourism. Moving beyond generalizing discourses, and positioning the practices of skin-lightening within localized experiences of the world, we here focus on situated geographies of colourism. In this literature seminar on skin-lightening, Forum for Africa Studies invites you to a discussion about the images that represent and construct skin-lightening practices, the discourses they engender, their reflections of situated geographies of colourism, and how the skin itself becomes an image.
